Healthy Treats for Kids

For those of you that are friends of a Wendy's Frosty (or a chocolate milk shake), here's an excellent recipe.  Here's a tip: to freeze your bananas, peel them first and put them on a cookie sheet to freeze.  Once frozen, store them in Ziplock (or similar) bags to use in smoothies or shakes.

"Frosty"
3 cups water
1/4 cup carob or cocoa powder
5-6 frozen bananas
1/4 cup maple syrup, honey, agave, or dates
2 tsp vanilla

In a blender, combine water and bananas.  Add carob, sweetener, and vanilla.  Blend until smooth.  If using carob, you can add a TINY pinch or cayenne pepper to help counteract the bitter aftertaste.

  1. When I freeze my bananas, they go straight from being peeled to being in a bag. Does it make much of a difference to freeze them on a cookie sheet first? Not that it matters much; my freezer is tiny! *B

  2. It doesn't really matter...just prevents them sticking together. In my smaller freezer, I freeze less bananas on a pie tin, if you want to try it.
